The Wheelwright Academy - Coming Soon

The Wheelwright Hub Academy is being developed to deliver structured educational programmes and apprenticeships in traditional wheelwrighting and carriage building, skills that are at genuine risk of being lost to future generations in New Zealand.

The academy's programmes are being built in partnership with The Wheelwright Heritage Trust, a registered trust with a focused mission:

Trade Preservation
Protecting the specialised knowledge and technical skills required to build and repair wooden wheels and horse-drawn vehicles.

Education & Training
Providing a framework for teaching traditional techniques, ensuring the craftsmanship doesn't become a lost art.

Historical Conservation
Maintaining high standards of authenticity in the restoration and conservation of heritage transport for museums, collectors, and historical projects.

Community & Connectivity
Acting as a hub for the carriage building community in New Zealand, fostering a network of craftspeople, historians, and enthusiasts.

The Trust is currently focused on gathering the funds and expertise needed to bring these programmes to life. If you share our passion for preserving this remarkable trade, your support can make a real difference.
